Sometimes a few small improvements are all it takes to completely makeover and transform a dull or damaged smile. After all, a few minor cosmetic improvements to fix chipped, stained, or uneven teeth may be exactly what you need to get the smile you want! Here at Rochester Dental in Troy, MI, your cosmetic dentists, Dr. William Carmody and Dr. Debra Halse, offer dental bonding to fix the minor flaws in your teeth.
How Dental Bonding Works
Even with the best of care, your teeth are still susceptible to damage from trauma from accidents, falls, sports injuries, or even from biting down while eating a hard piece of candy or food. Or maybe your teeth are not as white as they used to be or as you'd like them to be. You may brush and floss every day, but over time everything from your diet to the normal aging process will take a toll and slowly dull your teeth over time.
Cosmetic bonding has a few things in common with dental veneers, but there are several key differences. Veneers are usually made from porcelain, are designed from tooth molds, and prepared in a lab, a process that requires several visits to the dentist's office. Bonding, on the other hand, uses composite resin (dental plastic) that is applied directly onto the tooth, a process that only requires one appointment to our Troy office. The resin is cured (dried) with a laser or UV light, providing almost instant results.
While bonding typically doesn't last as long as veneers, a typical cosmetic bonding treatment can last from four to eight years depending on the person.
